2023 FIELD TRIP PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- FOLLOW ALL LAWS, REGULATIONS AND RULES, INCLUDING NO LITTERING
- DO NOT SHARE SITE INFORMATION WITH A NON-MEMBER
- ALWAYS WATCH FOR OTHERS ABOVE, BELOW AND CLOSE BY WHEN USING YOUR ROCK HAMMER
- CLOSELY SUPERVISE ALL CHILDREN AND PETS (FROM SNAKES, THORNS, BROKEN GLASS)
- SIGN WAIVER OF LIABILITY AS REQUIRED AT MEET SITE
- PAY ANY REQUIRED FEES TO TRIP LEADER IN CASH (SUCH AS FEES FOR PRIVATE LAND & PRIVATE CLAIMS)
- BE READY FOR PROMPT DEPARTURE TIME AT MEETING SITE
- HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS DEPENDABLE WITH A GOOD SPARE TIRE
- MANY SITES WILL HAVE NO OR POOR CELL COVERAGE
PERSONAL SAFETY GUIDELINES:
- PROPER CLOTHING, BOOTS, GLOVES, WIDE-BRIMMED HAT, SUNSCREEN AND SAFETY GLASSES
- PLENTY OF WATER (SUGGESTED 3 LITERS PER PERSON)
- WHEN CARAVANNING, NEVER LOSE SITE OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU (KEEP FIELD TRIP LEADER’S PHONE NUMBER WITH YOU)
- NEVER ARRIVE AT TRIP SITE BEFORE TRIP LEADER (THERE MAY BE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS)
- REQUEST THAT THE LAST 2 CARS AT TRIP SITE LEAVE TOGETHER
- IF THE ROAD BECOMES TOO HAZARDOUS FOR YOUR VEHICLE, PULL OVER AND CALL THE TRIP LEADER
- OPTIONAL: FLASHLIGHT, CELL PHONE CHARGER, BATTERY CHARGER, BLANKET
COLLECTING INFORMATION FOR BLM LAND AND NATIONAL FOREST LAND:
- COLLECTING ON BLM LAND IS LIMITED TO 25 LBS + 1 ROCK DAILY
- IF YOU DIG A HOLE FILL IT IN
- NATIONAL FOREST: HANDFUL OF SPECIMENS NOT TO EXCEED 10 LBS DAILY
- NATIVE PLANT LAW IN ARIZONA PROHIBITS: DIGGING UP PLANTS, DAMAGING PLANTS
- NO COLLECTION OF POTTERY SHARDS OR ARROWHEADS
NO COLLECTING AT THESE SITES:
- NATIONAL PARKS: NO COLLECTING ALLOWED
- NATIONAL HISTORIC SITES: NO COLLECTING ALLOWED
- WILDERNESS AREAS: NO COLLECTING ALLOWED
- ARIZONA STATE TRUST LANDS: NO COLLECTING ALLOWED
- AZ STATE PARKS: A PERSON MAY NOT DEFACE, INJURE, DESTROY, TAKE OR USE: PUBLIC FACILITY, PROPERTY, WILDLIFE, ANIMALS, PLANTS, ARCHEOLOGICAL, GEOLOGICAL OR HISTORICAL OBJECTS
